TOBA TEK SINGH, Aug 16: Nawan Lahore police station Sub-Inspector Liaquat Ali was suspended from service on Friday for failing to take ‘prompt’ action and showing negligence in a gang-rape case of Chak 343-JB Bhatta Nawab Wala.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, district police officer Chaudhry Ashraf said he himself visited the village and directed the Nawan Lahore SHO to investigate the case.

Meanwhile, a Nawan Lahore police official said the rape of seven girls of Joya family had taken place on the night of Aug 4. Police were informed of a dacoity incident on Aug 5 by Khan Muhammad Joya. Police summoned both the complainant and the accused parties for reconciliation. They failed to reach an agreement and on Aug 10 Khan Muhammad gave a written application that seven women of his family were raped by the accused. Police registered a rape case against four nominated and nine unidentified accused.

He said the arrested accused Rafiq, Nasir, Jafar and Bashir were nephews of Khan Muhammad while Nasir was also son-in-law of the complainant.

Accused Nasir who has been in the police lock-up told this scribe that there was a dispute over an exchange (watta satta) marriage. He said his uncle had fabricated a story to take revenge from his family.

DIE: A woman and a boy died in separate accidents on Friday.

Iffat Perveen, a resident of Chak 148-GB Chohla was crossing a road when a speeding motorcycle rickshaw hit her. She died on way to hospital.

Khaliquz Zaman of Chak 264-GB was crushed by a speeding bus on the Toba-Chichawatni road, some 30 kilometres from here, while trying to cross a road.

MURDER: A farmer was killed by his brother in Mauza Ludher near Gojra on Friday over a land dispute.

Majidullah was on his way home from his fields when accused Habibullah axed him to death and fled from the scene.
