KOHAT, Aug 16: The military authorities have banned the entry of vehicles not registered in the name of the owner or the driver, in the cantonment, causing inconvenience to the people.
The district council has passed a unanimous resolution demanding that the authorities concerned should review their decision and find an acceptable solution to the problem.
During the past four days, hundreds of cars and motorcycles were challaned by the military police, in some cases the vehicles were impounded and the owners were asked to register the vehicles in their names and then collect their driving licenses.
A number of people complained of the attitude of the MP and demanded that they should only check the vehicles and leave the registration compulsion to the excise and taxation department. They said most families had one vehicle which could not be registered in the name of all the drivers.
They said that first the excise staff should launch a campaign giving them time to complete the procedure and before that the MP should be barred from imposing fine.
Station Commander Brig Zahid Ahmed Malik, when approached by the people, said the precautions had been taken on the orders from higher authorities to ensure security of the people.
