SWABI, Nov 6: The defence council of Afghanistan and Pakistan has finalized all arrangements for Friday’s wheel-jam strike and protest demonstrations against Pakistan’s support to the US-led attacks on Afghanistan.

The DCAP leaders told journalists here on Tuesday that the arrangements have been finalized at a meeting of the Council on Monday. They said that a number of committees had been formed in different localities to make the wheel-jam strike a success, however, they did not disclose the names of the committees’ members, apprehending their arrests ahead of the strike.

They vowed that arrests could not deter the people to protest against the government’s support to American airstrikes on the innocent people of Afghanistan. How many people the government would arrests as 90 per cent of them are opposed to the government’s Afghan policy, they observed, saying that the strike would be a referendum against the military regime of Gen Pervez Musharraf.

To a question, they said that in case of the arrest of the DCAP leaders, the council had made alternative arrangements to stage a successful strike as there were reports that the law enforcement agencies were preparing lists of the religious parties’ leaders to prevent them from participating in the strike.

DCAP district vice-president Syed Maqbool Shah Bukhari warned that they would force those traders and businessmen to close their businesses if they tried to open their shops on the day of the strike.

Government officials said that they had planned to provide security to all businessmen who would open their shops on Friday. No one would be allowed to disrupt public life or create disturbance and harass the public.
