MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 5: A man was killed in overnight Indian firing in the southern Kotli district of Azad Kashmir, police said on Monday.

Habibullah, 44, son of Mohammad Khan, died in Mithrani village in Nakyal sector on Sunday evening after being hit by splinters of a mortar shell, police officer Raja Ghulam Sarwar told Dawn.

He said overnight shelling also occurred in Dharoti, Mohra and Balakot villages of the same sector, but no more casualties were reported.

The Line of Control, however, remained calm on Monday, Sarwar said.

The latest casualty has pushed the civilian death toll in Azad Kashmir in unprovoked Indian shelling since last Monday to 10. An army officer was also killed in enemy shelling in AJK.
