WASHINGTON, Aug 3: The foreign relations committee of the US Senate has adopted a bipartisan inscription that praises Pakistan’s outgoing ambassador, Maleeha Lodhi, as “a cultural bridge” between the United States and the Islamic world.

The inscription was jointly signed by the committee’s chairman, Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr. a democrat; republican senators Sam Brownback and George Allen; and democrat senators Paul Wellstone, Diane Feinstein, Bob Torecelli and Harry Reid.

The inscription, which is now part of the Congressional record, says: “Ambassador Lodhi has served her country with exceptional distinction. Her prior experience as both an academic and a journalist has proved to be a great advantage: she has always articulated her government’s positions with the precision of a scholar and the persuasive reach of a news analyst.”
