SUKKUR, Aug 3: Four members of the private force of the Chachar tribe were killed and three injured when some 25 armed Teghani tribesmen attacked Hashim Chachar village in the Gudhpur police jurisdiction, Sukkur district on Saturday.

The police sources said that the Teghanis attacked the village to take revenge of the killing of Ali Mohammad Teghani, the brother of a dacoit, Hayat Teghani, by Chachar Private Force some time back.

They said some 25 Teghanis fired rocket launchers and opened indiscriminate firing as a result Feroze Chachar, the younger brother of the in charge of the Chachar Private Force, Wahid Bukhsh Chachar, and three members of the force, Khamiso Chachar, Sharif Chachar and Piral Chachar, were killed on the spot.

Three members of the private force, Ramzan Chachar, Hussain Chachar and Koro Khan Chachar were injured.

Several houses of the village were damaged in the rocket attack.

The DPO, Sukkur, Deen Mohammad Baloch, with a strong contingent of police, rushed to the area and talked with the elders of the Chachar tribe, trying to cool them down.

The police began massive hunts to arrest the attackers but sources said that the Teghanis were hidden in bunkers and were not allowing anybody to enter their area.

The areas presents a deserted look as a curfew like situation prevails there.

The police also established five check-posts to avert any further clash.

The police sources claimed that Hayat Teghani and his accomplices were involved in the armed attack and Chachar tribesmen were concentrating themselves in the area and panic and harassment was prevailing in the area.

The Sukkur range police raised the private force to fight against the dacoits and government weapons were supplied to them. The police used the force against the dacoits, which created rivalry among the tribesmen.

The Teghani tribesmen told newsmen that the Chachars killed their man over a Karo-kari dispute. They also claimed that the police officials did not recruit the Teghani tribesmen in the private force as a result the Chachars enjoyed the upper hand over Teghanis and they were passing wrong information about the Teghanis.
