MULTAN, Aug 2: A local civil court on Friday granted bail to former MPA Ahsan Shah, his sister and their relative in two different cases, including the one of an attack on a lady police officer.

The former legislator, his sister Mehnaz and her husband Faisal Jamal Durrani were arrested by the Cantonment police on Thursday night.

Multan security branch in charge, Inspector Robina Abbas, had recovered a stolen car from the house of Durrani when she was the Boharr Gate SHO on the information of an alleged under-interrogation carjacker some time back. Durrani was on bail in the car-theft case.

On Thursday night, Inspector Robina and her colleagues, Tallat Hafeez, Shabeena Karim, Namreen and Sadia Saeed, went to a Chinese restaurant in the Cantonment area for dinner. Incidentally, Durrani and Mehnaz were already present there. Mehnaz allegedly kept on passing taunting remarks to the officer.

Inspector Robina told Dawn that she twice complained to the hotel management to check the unsavoury situation, but they did not bother.

When they left their table after finishing their dinner, Mehnaz reportedly seized Robina by collar and slapped her which led to a scuffle between them.

In the meanwhile, other officers called police which arrested the couple.

Cantonment police had registered a case against the arrested couple on the report of Inspector Robina.

Shortly afterwards, Ahsan Shah arrived at the police station and used harsh language to force the release of his sister.

At this, SHO Mian Tanveer also detained Ahsan Shah who, he said, was wanted in a dacoity case registered with the same police station.

On Friday, the three arrested people filed bail applications with the local court which were accepted.
