SARGODHA, Aug 2: The delaying tactics being employed in resolving the Abbakhel Vani case may create misunderstanding between the two parties.

Although the full compensation payment (diyat) for four death convicts has not been made, parties are sluggishly responding to the compromise to achieve their own ends.

According to details collected by this correspondent, the convict party had so far offered Rs5 million to the aggrieved party. Arbitrators assured justice while both the parties also expressed their willingness to stand firm to their words.

Abdullah Khan, son of deceased Noor Khan, has reportedly refused to give his statement about pardoning four condemned prisoners till the accused party provides diyat in lump sum.

The area people were of the view that the accused party had deliberately delayed the payment just to get some help from the government or human rights activists.

The accused party was said to have arranged the diyat amount on the rukhsati day of convict Sardar Khan’s daughter with an elderly man, Atta Muhammad. But after the government intervention and publicity on electronic and print media, the accused party started showing its inability to pay the rest amount.

Muhammad Afzal, a relative of the accused party and working as supervisor in the Agricultural Engineering Department, had purchased the land at Rs3.3 million. But he has still not transferred the land in his name. Afzal is also the talk of town as to how he earned a huge money to manage a luxury car and a bungalow in the posh locality as well.

Abdullah Khan said that he was in favour of compromise and also welcomed the suggestion of the government and the supreme court, but he would not forgive the diyat amount settled in the Panchayat. The people opined that the party headed by Atta Muhammad might claim more amount in place of eight girls if the payment was delayed.

It is also learnt that the accused party was compelling the deceased party to accept 500 kanal land on actual market price. Besides, they were also convincing the arbitrators for the compensation of loss they had suffered after selling their 1,300 kanal land at almost half the rate under compulsion to avoid execution of four accused on July 27.
