Kuwaitis to visit Cuban camp

Published August 3, 2002

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 2: A Kuwaiti team would soon visit the X-Ray camp, Guantanamo, Cuba, to ascertain the condition of the 12 Kuwaiti detainees there, announced Kuwaiti Interior Minister Khalid al Sabah on Thursday.

In a statement to an Arabic daily, Al Rai Al Aam, Khalid al Sabah said the Kuwaiti delegation would leave Guantanamo later this month to get to know the well-being of the 12 Kuwaiti detainees.

He said there was no reason for the United States to continue to detain the 12, especially after the conclusion of an investigation proving they were not members of the Al Qaeda and had nothing to do with the Sept 11 attacks on Washington and New York.

“American investigation with the Kuwaiti detainees has been concluded and no charges have been directed against them, so there was no reason for their continued detention,” Khalid added.
