HYDERABAD, Aug 1: The chairman, Parents-Teachers Action Committee (PTAC), Matloob Ahmed Chishti, the other day met with the provincial secretary, Education, Nazar Hussain Mahar, at his Karachi office and pleaded the case of 52 women teachers with two to eight years of service and asked for their regularization.

He also proposed that if the bona fide of the women teachers was to be ascertained then they may be examined departmentally.

He termed the interview calls by the education department through the newspapers illogical saying that the department would be flooded with applications.

He said that there was a difference between the teachers who had two to eight years experience and the new candidates.

The secretary education is reported to have directed the additional secretary, administration, Karim Bux Brohi, to write a DO letter to the chairman, Public Service Commission, to conduct the test of 52 teachers and decide their cases on merit.

The coordinator of the 52 women teachers’ action committee, Seema Naz, and Farhana Farooqui also met with the secretary and additional secretary in connection with the above demands.

INSTITUTE OF SINDHOLOGY: A meeting of all the sectional heads of the Institute of Sindhology was held on Wednesday to review the work of the institute and discuss the future plans.

The vice chancellor, University of Sindh, Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, presided over the meeting which was attended by Mrs Razia Bughio, Mrs Razia Tariq, Miss Aisha Madad, Abdul Qadir Junejo, Gul Mohammed Mughal, and Mohammed Qasim Maka.

The director, Institute of Sindhology, Shaukat Hussain Shoro presented the progress report in the light of the decisions taken in the previous meeting.

It discussed matters relating to a gallery of prominent personalities and decided to open a gift shop. It discussed the publication of the second volume of directory of writers with full addresses including phone numbers. It was informed that 1,184 writers had filled their performa for the directory.

It was informed that under the inter-linkage programme of libraries, the institute had filled a performa for 560 books for data computerization.

It reviewed the progress on the on-going projects in the field of research and publication in the Institute of Sindhology.

ACTIVISTS: At least three dozen activists of Pasban staged a protest demonstration outside the press club on Wednesday against the attack their leader Khalaq Ahmed Soomro allegedly by the chairman, Zakat Committee, Sujawal, Abdus Sattar Soomro, and his son, Aziz Soomro.
