MANCHESTER, July 31: Rookie hurdler Lacena Golding-Clark led a Jamaican 1-2 as she won the womem’s Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles title here on Wednesday in a time of 12.77secs.

The 27-year-old former long jumper, who only took up the event this year, beat home her room-mate and training partner Vonette Dixon (12.83) while Nigeria’s Angela Atede took bronze (12.98).

Jamaica missed out on a probable cleansweep because national recordholder Bridgette Foster withdrew from the final because she pulled a hamstring on Tuesday.

Golding-Clark led from the gun with only 26-year-old Dixon capable of mounting a challenge but the leader had too much left in the locker as she put up a perfect display of hurdling.

Results:

1. Lacena Golding-Clark (Jamaica) 12.77 seconds; 2. Vonette Dixon (Jamaica) 12.83; 3. Angela Atede (Nigeria) 12.98; 4. Diane Allahgreen (England) 13.01; 5. Angela Whyte (Canada) 13.17; 6. Julie Pratt (England) 13.26; 7. Jacquie Munro (Australia) 13.31; Bridgette Foster (Jamaica) DNS—Reuters
