NAUSHAHRO FEROZE Veteran politician and former caretaker prime minister Ghulam Mustafa Khan Jatoi was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in New Jatoi, about 15 kilometres away from here, on Monday.

The funeral was attended by thousands of people, including workers and supporters of the National People's Party that Mr Jatoi headed.

As the caravan carrying the coffin entered Moro, thousands of people gathered on both sides of the road. They carried portraits of Mr Jatoi and NPP flags and showered rose petals on the hearse.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, Nadir Magsi, Manzoor Wassan, Mir Abid Jatoi, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto and an MQM delegation led by Raza Haroon attended the funeral.

Naushahro Feroze Nazim Aqib Khan Jatoi declared Monday a day of mourning and holiday in the district and Moro, Naushahro Feroze, New Jatoi, Mithiani, Deparja, Sadhoja, Muchur, Darya Khan Mari and Mehrabpur towns were closed as mark of respect to the veteran politician.

The late leader's sons Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, Masroor Khan Jatoi and Arif Mustafa Jatoi and nephew, district nazim Aqib Khan Jatoi and brother Dr Abdul Ghaffar Jatoi received condolences.
