SAHIWAL, July 28: An independent candidate intending to contest elections hosted a luncheon on Sunday for over 10,000 people just to announce his candidature from NA 161.

The lunch, arranged at the local Zafar Ali Stadium, witnessed scenes from the most uncultured gathering who were snatching plates and bowls of mutton gravy from each other. In this effort, they hardly thought of their clothes which had changed their colours with the spilling of mutton curry.

The lavish luncheon was also attended by PPP’s CEC member Chaudhry Naurez Shakoor Khan, PPP city president Rana Aftab and other party leaders.

On this occasion, tehsil Nazim Rana Aamir Shahzad, three Naib Nazimeen — Rana Siddique, Rana Shabbir and Altaf Janjua — announced their support for the independent candidate.

PARTY ELECTIONS: The PML (Q) released the election results of the party in a press conference here on Sunday.

Malik Jalal Din Dhakko was elected district president and Waheed Asghar Dogar senior vice-president.

Meanwhile, the PPP also declared the district results of the party elections.

Those declared as elected are former MNA Mehr Ghulam Farid Kathia district president, Ali Nawaz Bhatti senior vice-president, Muhammad Zaki Chaudhry vice-president, Muhammad Arshad Khan secretary-general, Ali Imran Jaan additional secretary-general, Muhammad Irshad finance secretary and Muhammad Nasrullah information secretary.
