Release of Hafiz Saeed demanded

FAISALABAD, July 28: The Jamaat Dawat Pakistan has asked the government to immediately release its central leader, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, and not to mislead higher courts about his arrest otherwise its workers will come no roads.

Speaking to a workers’ convention here on Saturday night, Jamaat’s central leader, Hafiz Abdul Rehman Makki, said the military regime had miserably been failed on all fronts due to its ill-conceived policies.

He alleged that rulers were playing in the hands of anti-Islamic forces just to prolong their rule which could be dangerous for the federation.

The rulers, he said, were making changes in the Kashmir policy on the direction of the US which would be a great setback for the freedom fighters who had sacrificed their lives.

The government had already launched a vilification campaign against deeni madaris and the character assassination of religious scholars had become an order of the day, he said.

He claimed that mosques and madaris were being given the status of “model institutions” under a deep-rooted conspiracy only to make a solid ground of law enforcement agencies in the managements of these respectable places.

Arrests of jihadi leaders, ulema and leaders of religious organizations were a step of the rulers towards converting the motherland into a “secular state”. If we failed to take bold steps in right direction then the country would face anarchy, he apprehended.

Speaking on the occasion, Jamaat-i-Islami city amir Mehboobuz Zaman Butt also criticized the government plans especially the foreign policy.

He demanded that the rulers should immediately quit and hand over the power to the elected government by holding general elections.

Jihadi commanders — Abdul Rehman, Qari Younas, Abdul Waheed Saqi, Maulana Zakirya and Amir Abu Al Hashim were also present on the occasion.

ELECTED: All the candidates were elected unopposed in the party elections of the PPP here on Sunday.

Election commissioner Chaudhry Umer Draz announced that Chaudhry Muhammad Ilyas was elected district president, Abdul Malik senior vice-president, Farooq Israr vice-president, Rana Usman secretary-general, Azhar Qureshi public relations secretary, Nadeem Babar secretary record and Saleem Jahangir Chattha information secretary.

SHOT DEAD: A married woman was shot dead on Saturday night by three persons in Chak 224 in the limits of Batala Colony police station.

Afzal, Akram and Waris had fallen out with their neighbour, Muzammil, over a minor issue. Later, they came to the house of Muzammil and opened indiscriminate fire, killing Yasmeen Bibi on the spot.

Police sent the body to hospital for autopsy after registering a case against the accused.
