THATTA, Nov 5: Governor Sindh Muhammadmian Soomro has underlined the need for preparation of feasibility studies of low cost development schemes, keeping in view the meagre resources available with the government, said an official handout, issues here on Monday.

Addressing the Nazims, Naib Nazims and councillors of Thatta at circuit house Makli on Monday noon, the Governor said initially “we were facing difficulties in implementation of devolution plan, but as it was in the best interest of general population, the people would realise its importance on yielding positive results of it.”

He suggested the councillors to point out without reservations and fear malpractices of administrative machinery.

About shortage of irrigation water Mr Soomro predicted 70 per cent less availability of water this year.

He also stressed the need to elimination of copy culture from the academic institutions, so as to produce highly skilled and professionally excellent future generation.

District Nazim Syed Shafqat Hussain Shah Shirazi and taluka Nazims presented various problems relating to power, water, health, etc. of their concern areas.

The governor assured the Nazims and the Naib Nazims of early redressal of their grievances.

The Governor also chaired a meeting of district officers and reviewed the administrative and financial issues of the district. He said a handsome amount has already been allocated out of the resources of provincial government for the development of all districts.

Newsmen barred: The bureaucrats, annoyed by the government move to implement the devolution plan, did not allow the media men into the circuit house to cover the address of the Sindh governor Muhammadmian Soomro here on Monday, reports our correspondent.

This was the first-ever official visit of Mr Soomro to Thatta district since his induction as the Sindh Governor in the key post, and after the implementation of devolution plan as well.

When contacted, DDO coordination Mr Abdul Aleem Buledai shifted the onus of responsibility to the DCO by saying that the fax massage from the governor house did not contain names of the local media people. The officials also misled the journalists as well general public about the timing and programme of governor’s visit, to village Haji Usman Soomro, where he was scheduled to condole the death of Sardar Muhammad Ali Soomro, elder brother of PPP’s former MPA Dr Abdul Wahid Soomro.

Our Dadu Correspondent adds: The Sindh governor, Mohammedmian Soomro, said that he would take stern action against those teachers and doctors who were not performing their duties and remained absent from duty. He warned that they would be terminated from service if any complaints were received from the district Nazim.

He said this while addressing a delegation of taluka Nazims, Naib Nazims, and growers at the Sehwan irrigation rest house on Monday.

The governor Sindh ordered EDOs of the health and education department to conduct raids along with taluka municipal officers at the hospitals, dispensaries, basic health units, health centres, and schools and send their reports to the chief secretary, Sindh, through the district Nazims against the absentee staffs.

He assured that jobs would be provided to the graduates in various departments of Sindh after the ban was lifted.

Mr Soomro advised growers not to waste water as Sindh was facing shortage of irrigation water. He advised growers to build cemented watercourses to cultivate their lands as this would save water.

He said keeping in view the shortage of funds, the districts should create their own resources and resolve their problems through the elected representatives.

He directed the Nazims to hold open katchehries in their respective union councils.
