LARKANA, Nov 5: The operation against the attackers of Bugti police station of Kandhkot in Jacobabad bore fruit when police succeeded in recovering 13 weapons and one wireless base set on Monday.

A team of senior police officers including Deputy Inspector General of Police, Larkana, Sardar Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Leghari, SSP Shikarpur Nadir Hussain Khoso and SSP Sukkur Din Muhammed Baluch was supervising the efforts of safe recovery of the looted arms and ammunition and arrest the attackers.

The team of three senior police officers had reportedly constituted sub-teams consisting of junior police officers to get in touch with the sardars and chiefs of different tribes to get back the weapons and lay hands on the outlaws involved in the crime.

The sources told this correspondent on Monday night that these police officers had contacted Sardar Chakar Khan Domki, Sardar Saleem Jan Mazari and Sundar Khan Sundrani.

The Inspector General of Police, Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, told Dawn that so far 13 weapons have been recovered from the Bugtis adding that “we will give you the good news when there will be a complete recovery”, which he expected soon.

Around sixty, seventy armed people of Bugti tribe on October,30 had stormed Bugti Colony police station in Kandhkot taluka of Jacobabad district, killing one cop, injuring two, kidnapped four and had taken away 28 SMGs, 11 G-3 rifle, one brain gun, one 7.62 rifle, one wireless set, one walki talki set and 750 rounds of SMG with them.

The armed tribesmen had attacked the police station and with the showers of bullet had killed a cop Muhktiar Ahmed Abro and seriously injured two others identified as Gullan Khan Mangi and Bashir Ahmed Jakhrani. They had also kidnapped four policemen — Abdul Razzak, Abdul Jabbar Khoso, Imdad Ali Bhatti and Sohino Khan Khoso. However after covering certain distance they released them near Sundarni village and escaped.

It was said that Bugti tribe and police grew against each other after the incident of September 17,2001 when the FC men opened fire on a tractor at RD 109 where Ali Murad son of Mir Bakhsh was killed in the jurisdiction of Bkhshapur police station. Again on September 25,2001 people of Bugti tribe attacked at Sui police picket and kidnapped two cops — Maqbool and Muhammed Shahban.

They were released when police arrested Mahmid Bugti. Subsequently on September,29,2001 one police constable Nek Muhammed was killed in an armed encounter between Bugti tribesmen and police at RD 109.

The sources said if needed, police would contact Nawab Akbar Bugti to recover the rest of the looted arms and ammunition. When contacted the DIG Larkana Sardar Fayyaz Ahmed Khan Leghari avoided to comment.

He however said that in the wake of continuous raids by different police parties and special teams we had recovered one machine gun, one brain gun, seven Klashnikoves, two G-3 rifles and one Chinese 7.62 automatic rifle and a wireless base set.

He said soon rest of the arms would be recovered. Leghari said that the element of inter-provincial coordination had played a key role in the recovery of arms and ammunition and would further help assist in flushing out the hideouts of the dacoits and nab their activities in the bud.
