Published November 6, 2001

LADDAH, Nov 5: Fighting broke out between two clans of the Langarkhel tribe of South Waziristan Agency over the ownership of a piece of land in the Laddah sub-division here on Sunday evening.

The tribesmen pounded each others positions with sophisticated weapons and the political administration sent a tribal jirga to the area to effect a ceasefire.

The fighting broke out when one of the clansmen started erecting new houses on the disputed land, sources said, adding that they were using anti-aircraft guns, Kalashnikovs and other sophisticated weapons against each other. A number of houses were also damaged in the clash.

The assistant political agent of Laddah sub-division has sent a jirga to the area to bring the warring tribesmen to the negotiation table. No loss of life has so far been reported from the area. However, the fighting was continuing till filing of this report.
