PESHAWAR, Nov 5: District Nazim lower Dir Dr Mohammad Yaqoob Khan said on Sunday that his government has allocated Rs10 million in the district budget 2001-2002 as seed money for setting up three hydel power houses at various sites in the district to check frequent power breakdowns and produce cheaper electricity.

Dr Yaqub Khan presiding over the meeting, which was besides others also attended by district Nazim upper Dir, Sahibzada Tariqullah, Project Director Sarhad Hydel Development Organization (SHYDO), Younis Khan Marwat and district coordination officer lower Dir and Ghulam Farooq Khan, said that this district had great potential for producing hydro-electricity and his government would take all possible measures to tap and utilize all these resources.

He asked SHYDO to conduct study and prepare feasibility report for setting up these power houses in the district, for which the sites have already been selected and submit detailed report to the district government within shortest possible time so that practical work on these public welfare-oriented projects could be launched at the earliest.

The district Nazim further said that the district government, if needed, would also approach the provincial government for financial assistance to give practical shape to the establishment of power houses and would also welcome investment from private sector.
