MUZAFFARABAD, July 26: The AJK Kashmir Development Working Party on Friday approved development projects worth Rs280.046 million, whereas, recommendations for projects costing Rs207.171 million were forwarded to the Central Development Party and Cabinet Development Committee.

According to a handout, the DWP meeting was chaired by Additional Chief Secretary (development) Sardar Abdur Rashid Khan and was attended by the Joint Secretary of Kashmir Affairs Ministry S. M. Junaid, and other concerned officials.

In the communications sector, Rs15.9 million were sanctioned for the construction of RCC bridge in Hajira, Rs82.367 million for the construction of 24.8-kilometre long Arja-Paniola road and Rs28.603 million for 8-km long Kahuta-Aliabad road.

In the housing and physical planning sector, Rs25.3 million were allocated for renovation, repair and extension of Narul guest house in Muzaffarabad. In local government and rural development sector, Rs20.08 million were allocated for a community-based project, which would be approved by the CDC.

Similarly, in health sector, recommendation for approval of Rs178.578 million for the construction of 100-bedded district headquarters hospital in Palandri was also forwarded to the CDC.

In the education sector, recommendation for sanctioning of Rs62.052 for revised scheme of four colleges in district Kotli, two for boys and two for girls, was also forwarded to the CDC.

Rs17.276 million were approved for the construction of sports stadium in Dadyal (district Mirpur).

In electricity sector, a committee was constituted for submitting recommendations to set up a big workshop for repair and change of transformers.

The committee includes chief technical planning and development Ilyas Abbasi, finance department’s Abdul Hameed Awan and electricity department’s superintending engineer Mushtaq Gorsi.

The project would cost Rs58.431 million. The meeting decided that for the time being small workshops would be set up at the division level, and the main workshop would be established later in the light of the committee’s recommendations.

#MACHINES DISTRIBUTED:#/ Ten sewing machines, worth Rs20,000, were distributed among destitute women here on Thursday.

The machines provided by a United Kingdom-based charity on the recommendation of local non governmental organization Al Mustafa Welfare Society were handed over to the women by AJK Industries, Social Welfare, Women Development and Population Welfare Secretary Sardar Riaz Ahmed Khan at Darul Falah.

The secretary underscored the role of the NGOs in ameliorating the lot of the people and pointed out that only those organizations could survive which worked with commitment and dedication. He called upon the affluent people to come forward to help the needy people.

Earlier, Nusrat Shaheen, superintendent of Darul Falah, which is run by the social welfare department, said the welfare home accepted 15 widows or divorced women at a time for one year. During the period, they are imparted training in rug weaving, embroidery, knitting and tailoring, she said and added that every woman was given a monthly stipend of Rs450 and allowed to keep with her four children, who were given Rs150 per month each. However, currently it was being availed by only three women, she said.
