KARACHI, July 25: The Royal Navy HMS Cumberland will be making a goodwill visit to Karachi between July 26-29.

This is the first Royal Navy ship to visit Pakistan since HMS Gloucester which visited Karachi in March 1997.

HMS Cumberland is a Type-22 Broadsword Class frigate and weighs some 4200 tonnes.

It has a top-speed of 30 knots and armed with sophisticated weapons systems, including a 4.5 inch gun, Sea Wolf and Harpoon missiles besides carrying a Lynx Helicopter.

The visit reflects the success of the recently restored UK-Pakistan Defence Co-operation Forum and demonstrates the UK’s commitment to strengthening of bilateral defence relationship.—APP
