ISLAMABAD, July 24: Despite the exemption of withholding tax on motor cars used for more than 10 years in Pakistan, the postal authorities were still collecting the same from the owners.

The Central Board of Revenue has formally sent a letter to the director general Pakistan Post Office to advise the postal authorities not to collect advance income tax/withholding tax from these vehicles effective from July 1, 2002.

Section 234 of the income tax ordinance, 2001 provided exemption from collection of advance tax on motor cars used for more than 10 years.— Reporter
