ISLAMABAD, July 24: The revenue receipts fell short by 2.63 per cent to Rs403.369 billion against the target of Rs414.3 billion set for the financial year 2001-02.

Official figures, released by Central Board of Revenue (CBR) here on Wednesday, showed the revenue collection this year registered a marginal growth of 2.8 per cent when compared with the last year collection of Rs392.277 billion.

The government has revised the revenue target downward thrice from Rs457.7 billion to Rs443.3 billion, then to Rs429.9 billion and finally to Rs414.3 billion for the current financial year because of 9/11.

Tax-wise break-up showed that the tax authorities collected Rs142.5 billion under the head of direct taxes during the July- June period of the current financial year against Rs124.585 billion collected during the same period last year, showing an increase of 14.4 per cent.

Under the head of sales tax the authorities collected Rs165.565 billion during the financial year 2001-02 against Rs153.565 billion last year, showing an increase of 8 per cent.

Under the head of customs, Rs48.237 billion were collected during the same period this year against Rs65.047 billion revenue collection of last year, a decline of 25.8 per cent.

The tax authorities collected Rs46.829 billion under the head of central excise duty during the July-June period of the current financial year against Rs49.080 billion collection, showing a decline of 4.6 per cent.
