KHAIRPUR, July 23: The activists of the Nara Youth Ittehad took out a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in outside the district Nazim office here on Tuesday.

They were protesting against oil and gas companies, working in Nara taluka, for not providing jobs to local youths.

Later, the protesters observed a token hunger strike.

The activists of the Awami Tehrik, members of the Khairpur Bar Association and Kot Diji Taluka Nazim Nawab Khan Wassan visited the hunger strike camp and expressed their support to the protesters.

Talking to newsmen, the protesters said there were about 13 foreign gas companies in Nara taluka and added that out of 2,800 persons working in these factories, only 468 were locals and the remaining were from Punjab and other areas.

WATER SHORTAGE: The growers continued their protest on Tuesday against the shortage of water in the three Talukas of Khairpur — Faiz Ganj, Sobhodero, and Nara.

The three canals — Mehrab Machhar, Samaj Minor and Ghirkano Minor — in Sobhodero Taluka have little water flowing in them.

The growers of the minor continued their protest and blocked the Hingorja Saghiyoon road. They also observed token hunger strike.

They said the irrigation officials were not providing them water.

The growers of the four canals of Faiz Ganj Taluka — Ali Nawaz Minor, Faiz Ganj, Pandro, and Veeho Wah — also held demonstrations in Faiz Ganj and Pacca Chang.

Carrying banners they raised slogans against the irrigation officials for not supplying them water.

DEMO: The growers of Nara Taluka held a demonstration against Hyderabad Electric Supply Company on Tuesday.

They were led by the Naib Nazim, Khairpur Taluka council, Ahsanullah Panhyar.

While addressing the protesters, the Naib Nazim said that there were at least 30 pumps at the Nara canal for supplying water to the crops in the area.

However, he added, due to the unscheduled loadshedding by the Hesco for 10 to 12 hours on a daily basis the pumps remained closed as a result of which the growers did not get any water for their crops.
