SRINAGAR, July 22: Indian troops gunned down seven guerillas in held Kashmir, as two separate blasts left three children and a soldier injured on Monday, police said.

Four guerillas died in two separate gunbattles in the southern districts of Doda and Udhampur, a police spokesman said in Srinagar.

Three more fighters died at the hands of Indian forces in the northern districts of Kupwara and Baramulla, he added.

Police also found a bullet-ridden body in southern Anantnag district, but did not say when the man had been shot.

A low-intensity bomb exploded near a paramilitary base housed in a multi-storey hotel in Srinagar, injuring a guard but causing little damage, witnesses said. They said a private car with an explosive device placed in the back was parked near the hotel. The bomb exploded around noon, sparking panic and shattering glass in nearby vehicles and buildings.

Senior police and paramilitary officers rushed to the site.

At Sonamarg, northeast of Srinagar, three schoolchildren were injured in an explosion, a spokesman said.—AFP
