KARACHI, July 20: Launching ceremony of Olympian Anwar Ahmed Khan’s book Hikayat-e-Hockey will be held here in Arts Council Sunday.

Col. (Rtd) S. K Tressler, Federal Minister for Culture, Sports and Minorities, will be the chief guest on this occasion. Renowned nuclear scientist, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan, Advisor for Science and technology to the president will preside over the function.

Hikayat-e-Hockey is the second book to be produced by Anwar Ahmad Khan who had become the first Pakistan hockey player to author his autobiography “Anwar” which was published in 1990.

Anwar has been rated as the greatest-ever centre- half of the hockey world. He made his Olympic debut at Melbourne in 1956 where Pakistan succeeded in reaching the final for the first time and played a pivotal role in guiding Pakistan to earn its first olympic gold at Rome in 1960.

Anwar was vice-captain of the Pakistan squad for the 1964 Olympic Games at Tokyo where silver medal was secured. He captained the side in most of the matches in the 1964 olympics after skipper S M H Atif had suffered an injury in a league fixture.

He represented Pakistan two times at the Asian games, Tokyo (1958) and Jakarta (1962), and on both occasions helped Pakistan claim the gold.—APP
