BADIN, July 19: A sudden rise in the snake-bite cases has been noticed after the arrival of water in the district following a long spell of drought.

Within the last week, as many as 18 snake-bite patients were admitted to different hospitals and health units. Ten of the victims are under treatment at the local civil hospital.

It is believed that snakes have come out of their underground sanctuaries in a large number after being disturbed by the water.

People complained of shortage of serum at the rural health units but the civil surgeon, Badin, Dr Mohammad Moosa Memon, said adequate quantity of serum was available at the civil hospital.

CLEANLINESS: Unhygienic conditions in Badin town has been creating a real health hazard for the residents as many parts of the town are littered with filth, trash and garbage.
