MULTAN, July 19: The local anti-terrorism court No 1 judge on Friday handed down capital punishment to two convicts and life-term to their third accomplice in a dacoity-turned-murder case.
The judge awarded death sentence to Muhammad Riaz and Irshad alias Arshad and life imprisonment to Razzaq.
According to the prosecution, convicts had shot dead Ruqaiya Zaineb and injured Zainab Khatoon, Habibullah and Mohsin Nadeem on resistance during the dacoity on Feb 12, 1999. The incident occurred in Zafar Ali’s house in the Saddar police station area of Jalalpur Pirwala tehsil, Multan district.
The judge also directed the convicts to pay Rs0.1m each to the family of the deceased. In case of default, they will undergo imprisonment of two-year each.
The judge also awarded life imprisonment to all three convicts under Section 460 PPC.
OPTIC FIBRE LINK: The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) on Friday connected Lodhran, Kehror Pucca and Mailsi tehsils with optic fibre link.
A PTCL press release says the system with which the three tehsils of Multan telecom region are connected is of 622mbps capacity which will ensure improved and fast telecommunication service to subscribers.
Earlier, the areas were connected with the digital radio system which was unable to handle the increased pressure especially in the wake of proliferating use of information technology.
