CHITRAL, July 18: The population welfare department held a function here on Thursday in connection with the World Population Day. Chitral District Naib Nazim Salim Khan presided over the event.

Mr Khan, speaking on the occasion, stressed the people to play their due role in creating mass awareness about the implications of population explosion.

He said that all the efforts on the part of government would prove futile in the absence of public support, and urged the elected councillors to take it as their responsibility to win the mass support to fetter the disproportionate rise in population.

Executive District Officer for Health Dr Fazle Qayum and District Population Officer Haji Rehman Shah also spoke on the occasion.

Later on, a walk was staged by the participants which ended in front of the town hall. The participants were carrying banners and placards inscribed with the slogans favouring small family.

PTI CHIEF: Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaaf Chief Imran Khan has been scheduled to visit the district from July 25 and speak at public rallies in different towns.
