KHAIRPUR, July 18: The Nazims of various Talukas and union councils observed token hunger strike at Katchehry Road on Thursday against the transfer of DPO Abdul Khaliq Shaikh.

The Taluka Nazim, Khairpur, union council Nazims of Manganwari, Kamaldero, Tando Nazar Ali, Shah Latif Moosan Shah, and Pacca Chang joined the hunger strikers’ camp. They were led by the district Naib Nazim, Sher Mohammed Phulpoto.

Councillors, prominent citizens, and the villagers of various Talukas also joined the hunger strike.

Mr Phulpoto, while talking to newsmen, said that DPO Abdul Khaliq Shaikh had been recommended for the Quaid-i-Azam Award for his efficiency in the operation against dacoits, but even then he has been transferred.

The district Nazim, Ms Nafeesa Shah, on being contacted regarding her comments about the transfer of the DPO, said that she was with the hunger strikers.

She said that it was an injustice as high-level transfers were being made without taking her into confidence although she was an elected head of the district.
