ISLAMABAD, Aug 9 Sports Sciences Department of Punjab University reached the final of the fifth National Women Football Championship by defeating Islamabad's Young Rising Stars FC 2-1 in the first semi-final at the Jinnah Stadium on Sunday.

Hira scored the first goal for the winners in the 13th minute. Ayesha doubled the lead in the 22nd minute.

The scoreline was 2-0 at the interval.

Sahar Zaman reduced the lead by scoring on a penalty-kick in the 47th minute but could not save her side from defeat.

In the quarter-finals the other day, Iranian team Malavan Bandar Anzali created new record by beating Higher Education Commission (HEC) 22-0.

Striker Fereshteh Karimi raised her tally to 14 as she struck eight goals (5th, 6th, 13th, 31st, 35th, 55th, 60th and 65th minutes) for the winners.

Winger Sara Ghomi Marzdahti registered a double hat-trick.

Other goal-getters were Mina Hashemi (20th and 23rd mins), Maryam Irandost (49th and 70th mins), Afsaneh Eghbal (seventh min), Sepideh Nazhati (17th min) and Fatemeh Arzhangi (33rd min).

Rawalpindi's Young Rising Stars FC thrashed Punjab 7-0 and Wapda edged out Diya Football Club Sindh 2-1.

Aisha Jamal scored a hat-trick for Young Rising Stars (16th, 36th and 58th minutes).

The Rawalpindi-based club added more goals through Sahar Zaman (24th min), Asmara Habib (39th min), skipper Sana Mehmood (43rd min) and Malaika Noor (70th min).

Wapda's striker Rafia Perveen scored two sparkling goals (28th and 44th mins) that ended Diya's run in the competition.

Diya's reliable scorer Hajra Khan pulled one back in the 56th minute.—Agencies
