Lightning kills one, hurts five

MUZAFFARABAD, July 16: A teenager died and five others received burn wounds when lightening struck a remote village in Neelum valley in northeast of Muzaffarabad, a police officer said here on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in Seri Burj Behak on Sunday-Monday night, superintendent of police Raja Ghulam told Dawn.

Behaks are the temporary residences of the villagers at high altitudes in Kashmir where they move soon after the beginning of summer season mainly for cattle grazing and return when winter sets in.

Sarwar said the dead was identified as Taufiq, 16, son of Mohammed Alam and the injured were Qamar Alam, 11, son of Pir Alam; Begum Nur, 35, and Begum Jan, 25, wives of Waliur Rehman; Zarina, 12, daughter of Barkatullah; and Bibi Jan, 35, wife of Sher Ahmad.
