LAHORE, July 15: The Lahore High Court sought on Monday the federal government’s view on a petition alleging continued detention of a number of Pakistanis who took part in the Afghan Jihad.
The petition, filed by Advocate M.D. Tahir, alleged that 200 Jihadis were confined in the Central Jail of Haripur Hazara, Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, and Kot Lakhpat jail, Lahore.
They have been divided into ‘white’, ‘grey’ and ‘black’ groups. The three groups were being treated differently but all their members were being held without trial.
Justice Tasaddaq Husain Jilani, who heard the petition, asked a federal government law officer to seek instructions from the federal government and assist the court.
DIRECTIVES TO SSP, DEO: The Lahore High Court directed the Kasur SSP on Monday to produce the councillor, who slapped a doctor, within 24 hours before the court, reports APP.
Earlier, SSP Ghulam Muhammad Kalyar appeared before Justice Khwaja Muhammad Sharif and sought two days time for the production of the councillor. Justice Sharif directed him to produce the accused on Tuesday positively.
Phoolnagar SHO Ahmad Saeed had on Friday last informed the court that he had failed to find councillor Rana Zulfiqar. He said that he went to Pattoki in search of the councillor and also raided his kiln but failed to apprehend him.
Another bench of the Lahore High Court directed the District Education Officer (DEO) of Lahore on Monday to look into the matter of a teacher and resolve it within 60 days.
Earlier, education department’s legal adviser Shama Zia informed the court that petitioner Sajjad Ali’s appointment was made on fake educational certificates. An inquiry was conducted when the authorities concerned of the department came to know about it, the salary of the petitioner was stopped.
She said that matter was before Lahore DEO who would decide it.
Petitioner Sajjad Ali had submitted through Khadim Hussain Khokhar that the education department has not released his salaries, stopped eight months ago, despite a court order.
He prayed initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the officials concerned. —Staff Reporter
