GUJRANWALA, July 15: The local police on Monday claimed arresting three smugglers, including their ring leader, and seizing a huge quantity of illicit arms from their possession.

SSP Aslam Tarin told newsmen that on a tip-off that armed outlaws had been smuggling arms to Punjab from the tribal area, he inducted a raiding team comprising members of the CIA staff and an investigation cell. The team set up a picket on the GT Road near Chand Da Qila by-pass and caught three accused red-handed while carrying illicit arms by a car. They were identified as Nasir Khan, Zubair Khan and Saifullah.

Police also recovered 4 Kalashnikovs, a 222 bore rifle, a 455 bore revolver, a 12 bore gun, a pump action rifle and 2,197 cartridges from their custody. Their car was also taken into custody.

Police have instituted a case and are investigating.

Meanwhile, the SSP also claimed that police had arrested the robbers who snatched prize bonds worth Rs120,000 from a lady teacher in Trust Plaza a few days ago.
