FAISALABAD, July 14: Nishatabad police have yet to trace the murderers of four family members even after a month.

Dawn learnt on Sunday alleged negligence of police had made victims’ relatives run from pillar to post for the registration of the case.

On the night of June 7, some people stormed into the house of Nusrat, whose husband was abroad, at Shakeel Park in the limits of Nishatabad police. The outlaws killed Nusrat, 30, her son Hasham, 5, sister Iffat, 19, and nephew Osama, 3, after tying them. Without taking any valuables, the assailants fled after locking from inside the main gate of the house.

The police had registered a case after two days of the incident on the complaint of Nusrat’s sister Musarrat.

In her complaint, Musarrat suspected Nusrat’s former husband Tariq Ijaz was involved in the murders. She repeatedly asked the police to arrest Ijaz. However, the police adopted its traditional method and allegedly dumped the case.

The police arrested some people from the area over suspicion and allegedly tortured them physically to force their relatives to pay bribe.

Of late, police have allegedly pressurized the complainant to stop pursuing the case.

When contacted, Nishtabad police station SHO Akhtar Vanes told this correspondent that according to the police investigation, Nusrat’s nephew Muhammad Saeed was the main suspect and he was at large.

Despite hectic efforts and raids, he claimed the police could not get any clue to Saeed. However, he said proceedings had been initiated for declaring him absconder.

Couple of days after mysterious killing, Saeed and his brothers, according to the reports, were booked by the Sargodha Road police on the charge of murdering one Mahmood Alam over a minor dispute.
