Patients resent doctors attitude

Published July 14, 2002

CHITRAL, July 13: Two doctors of the Civil Hospital Booni are working with a parallel organization, adversely affecting the smooth functioning of the hospital.

A number of patients told Dawn that the doctors here were not paying attention to them as they were on the payroll of Aga Khan Health Service (AKHS), which is running a hospital in the town.

Due to the attitude of the doctors in the state-run hospital and lack of diagnostic facilities, the patients had no other option but to go to the Aga Khan hospital, said a patient.

It is also beyond the reach of everyone to get treatment at the AKHS hospital as the out-patient department (OPD) chit costs Rs75, in addition to other charges.

The Civil Hospital Booni is supposed to cover the whole Mastuj Tehsil, comprising the four distant valleys of Mulkhow, Torkhow, Yarkhoon and Laspur, but its management has disappointed the people and they prefer to go to the DHQ hospital instead.
