KARACHI, July 5 Former Pakistan Test fast bowler Khan Mohammad died in London on Sunday morning at the age of 81.

According to details available, Khan recently underwent surgery after he was diagnosed with prostrate cancer.

The late Khan Mohammad, formed a formidable new-ball partnership with the legendary Fazal Mahmood who passed away in 2005, in the early years of Pakistan Test cricket.

In an injury-prone Test career that spanned from Oct 1952 to March 1958, Khan Mohammad appeared in just 13 Tests, taking 54 wickets at an average of 23.45 with four hauls of five wickets in an innings.

Khan, a right-arm fast-medium bowler who bowled Pakistans first over in Test cricket, also had the distinction of taking the first wicket when he bowled Indian opener Pankaj Roy at Delhi. Khan also took the wicket of Roy's opening partner Vinoo Mankad, who was bowled for 11, in the same innings.

On Pakistans inaugural tour of England in 1954, Khan clean bowled England captain Len Hutton for a duck in the Lord's Test.

Khan achieved his best figures of six for 21 against New Zealand in the Dhaka Test of the 1955-56 series.

Born on Jan 1, 1928 at Lahore, Khan claimed 214 wickets (ave 23.22) in 54 first-class matches. Apart from representing Pakistan, Khan also played for Bahawalpur, Karachi, Lahore, Northern India, Sindh, Punjab University and briefly for English county side Somerset.

Son of a timber merchant, Khan, who had settled down in England in the late 1950s, leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter to mourn his death.
