Langer claims German Masters

Published October 8, 2001

PULHEIM, Oct 7: Germany’s Bernhard Langer won the 2.7-million-dollar German Masters tournament for the fourth time here on Sunday.

Langer carded a five-under-par 67 in the final round, one shot ahead of both Sweden’s Fredrik Jacobson and American John Daly, who shot a seven-under-par 65 to echo his eight-under-par 64 in the third round.

Both Jacobson and Daly finished on 267, with English duo Greg Owen and Roger Chapman two shots further back on 269.

The 44-year-old Langer continued his run as the most successful German golfer ever, with his win in this event - after those of 1989, 1991 and 1997 - bringing home the $394,000 purse.
