DADU, July 11: Highwaymen blocked the Indus Highway for two hours and looted thousands of rupees in cash and other valuables from passengers and drivers near the Kakar police station, some 20 kms from here, on Thursday.

A group of eight highwaymen blocked the Indus Highway and looted thousands of rupees in cash, gold, and other valuables from the passengers and drivers.

They also beat up 10 passengers and drivers of buses and trucks when they offered resistance.

Later, the transporters staged a demonstration and blocked the Indus Highway near the Kakar police station to protest against the highway robbery.

The demonstrators were raising slogans against the inefficiency of the police.

After three hours a heavy contingent of the Khairpur Nathan Shah police arrived on the spot.

The police followed the accused and arrested three of them who were identified as Ali Bux, Laung, and Ghulam Qadir, while their accomplices managed to escape.

SUSPENDED: The DPO, Dadu, Mohammed Tahir Naveed, suspended the WHC of the Johi police station, Ali Sher Panhwar, on the charges of supporting the criminals in the area.

WOMAN KILLED: Thirty-year-old Azizan was killed her husband, Khalid Baledai, over some domestic dispute in Kandi village, Mehar taluka, the other day.

The accused reportedly demanded Rs1,000 from his wife and when she refused to pay the money, she was clubbed to death.

Khan Mohammad, the brother of the woman, registered an FIR with the Thariri Mohabbat police against Khalid Baledai.

ACCIDENT: Ten passengers were injured when a coach collided with a wagon on the Indus Highway in Dadu town the other day.

The Karachi-bound passenger coach (JE-2610), coming from Larkana, collided with the Dadu-bound passenger wagon (R-1040).

The injured were admitted to the Dadu Civil Hospital where three of them, Muhakumuddin Machhi, Ms Shafi Arain and Khan Mohammad Kolachi, were said to be serious.

The Dadu town police impounded the vehicles.

SUSPENDED: Two Tapedars, Manzoor Bhutto and Abdul Majeed Soomro, of Mehar taluka were suspended by Mukhtiarkar Nizamuddin Thatiar the other day on the charges of not collecting the land revenue.

The Mukhtiarkar also seized their record and initiated departmental inquiry against them.
