MIRPURKHAS, July 11: The Tail-end Abadgars Association, Digri taluka, and the Zamindars Welfare Association, Kot Ghulam Mohammad, at meetings held at Juddo and Kot Ghulam Mohammad on Thursday, condemned the authorities for the arrest of growers and forcible collection of land revenue.

The growers’ associations announced they would not pay the agriculture revenue taxes as the same had been postponed.

Speaking at the meetings, Mir Mushtaq Talpur, Mohammad Urs Kalro, Syed Bachal shah, and Aslam khan appealed to the Sindh governor to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, over 50 growers were arrested in the district in a crackdown on the defaulters and they were released after the revenue officials collected the land revenue tax and Abiana from them.

The Sindh government, due to the continuous acute water shortage had declared five talukas of the Mirpurkhas district calamity-hit areas, and had postponed the recovery of the land revenue and Abiana taxes.

SUICIDE: Two persons, including one married woman, committed suicide by taking pesticides in different areas here on Thursday.

Twenty-year-old Budho committed suicide in Jani village, Deh 107, Mirpurkhas taluka, over some domestic problem.

Shahnaz, 18, wife of Shabbir Ahmad Panhwar, committed suicide in Khair Ahmad Panhwar village, Digri taluka, over some domestic affair.

INJURED: Three persons, including a woman, were injured in an attack in Deh 105, Digri taluka, on Thursday.

Ms Rahiman, Mohammad Hanif and Mohammad Younus were injured when Mohammad Akram, Mehboob Alam, Taswar Hussain and Jamshed Alam attacked them with sticks after an exchange of hot words over the construction of a wall between two houses.

The injured were taken to the Digri Taluka Hospital.

A case has been registered with the Digri police against the accused.

LOOTED: Manjhi, Nagji and Kanyo, all by caste Bheel, barged into the house of Ramshi Kolhi in Deh 297, Kot Ghulam Mohammad taluka, held the inmates hostage on gun point and looted Rs25000, cloths suits and gold ornaments.

KILLED: A man, Rashi Kolhi (25), was axed to death by his cousin, Bhoro Kolhi, on the pretext of Karo-kari at the Gulzar Makrani village in the limits of the Dilbar Mehar police station on Wednesday.
