GHALANAI, June 2 Suspected militants blew up two government-run schools in Mohmand tribal region in the small hours of Tuesday.

Residents of the area said unidentified militants planted improvised explosive devices at government middle school in Gokpind area of tehsil Safi and government middle school in Kotatrap area of tehsil Ambar which went off with a bang early on Tuesday morning. As a result both the buildings were destroyed completely.

About 14 educational institutions including Government Degree College Lakaro and three high schools had been blown up by suspected militants in Mohmand tribal region so far. Several health centres were also destroyed in the region.

All the educational institutions and health centres have been closed for the last one year owing to growing militancy in tehsils Safi, Khwazai, Ambar and Pandyali. Thousands of students in the region have been suffering due to the long closer of the educational institutions.

Few educational institutions are open in tehsils Haleemzai, Prang Ghar and Yaka Ghund.
