ISLAMABAD, Nov 2: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi bench, on Thursday admitted a writ petition filed by former senator Asif Ali Zardari, seeking bail in polo ground case, and issued notice to the prosecutor general, accountability, to give the government view by Nov 7.

The petition, filed through Farooq H. Naek, stated that co-accused Saeed Mehdi had been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the same case, which had been adjourned sine die due to illness of accused Shafi Sehwani.

The petitioner contended that he was also entitled to bail on statutory grounds as he had been arrested in the case more than a year ago and yet no charge had been framed against him as no evidence was brought up.

If granted bail in the case, Mr Zardari would only need bail in the narcotics case to come out of jail. He has already been granted bail in a dozen cases.
