Wasa version on open drain

Published November 3, 2001

FAISALABAD, Nov 2: The silt pocket on a sewer channel at Millat Chowk on Sheikhupura Road was created by Wasa itself for desilting the channel.

Reacting on a picture published in Dawn with a caption “Residents of Millat Chowk have put up a fence around a drain where slabs caved in several months ago; the agency is yet to move to do the needful”, Wasa managing director Syed Ghiasuddin said: “The Frontier Works Organization will cover this silt pocket after the completion of remodelling of Aziz Fatima Chowk.”

He said to avoid any mishap, bamboos had been erected around this pocket by Wasa authorities.

CONDEMNED: Local PML leaders have condemned the arrest of Javed Hashmi and vowed to continue their movement against the government at all costs.

Talking to newsmen here on Friday, Punjab PML vice-president Safdar Rehman, ex-MPAs Khwaja Muhammad Islam, Rana Sanaullah Khan and Zeeshan Elahi threatened that in case Hashmi was not released, the party would launch a country-wide protest campaign against military rulers.
