HYDERABAD, July 6: The Qasimabad police here on Saturday morning demolished an under-construction stage and took away the shuttering and other material which was being used to construct the stage for the ARD Workers Convention, scheduled to be held on July 8.

While the stage was being constructed, a heavy contingent of the police reached there and stopped the work.

The acting president of the PPP, Hyderabad city, Saghir Ahmad Qureshi, General-Secretary Zahid Ali Bhurgari, Zaheeruddin Ghumma, Mir Fateh Talpur, Mehboob Sangi and other PPP leaders rushed to the spot and told the SHO concerned that they had obtained permission to construct the stage.

However, the police officials said unless the final permission was granted, the construction of the stage would not be allowed.

The police and the PPP leaders also reportedly exchanged some hot words.

Later, a meeting was held at Bhurgari House under the chairmanship of Saghir Qureshi and condemned the demolition of the stage. It feared that the police action could create law and order situation.

The meeting observed that the administration was trying to sabotage the convention through what it called state terrorism.

The meeting resolved to hold the convention in Hyderabad.

BA RESULTS: The Univ-ersity of Sindh, Jamshoro, on Friday announced the result of BA part-I annual examination of 2001.

Out of 8,000 students, who appeared in the examination, 4,280 were declared pass and the result of 129 candidates was withheld due to copying cases.

The result of 31 candidates was withheld due to incomplete particulars and of eight candidates for other reasons.

As many as 3,432 students were declared fail, 2,933 in English alone.

SAU CLASSES: The authorities of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam, notified for the information of university students, parents and teachers that the classes in all the faculties of the university had already started.

The authorities advised the students to attend their classes regularly and warned that if any student failed to show 75 per cent attendance, he would not be allowed to appear in the examination.
