HYDERABAD, July 6: About 35 women, residents of Pir Mohalla Colony, Tando Muhammad Khan, staged a demonstration and hunger strike outside the press club here on Saturday in protest against the alleged misappropriation of Zakat funds.

Led by a woman councillor of the Union Council 5, Zulekha Sehto, Ameena Khairi, Zarina and Pathani, the protesters accused the chairman of the taluka Zakat Committee, Tariq Nizamani, and the local chairman, Soomar Parhiar, of misappropriation and favouritism.

Talking to newsmen, they alleged that deserving people were being totally ignored by both the chairmen while thousands of rupees were being distributed among their favourites.

They appealed to the governor to order an inquiry into the affair and ensure that deserving people were getting their share from the funds.

KIDNAPPING: A villager of Chambar, Babu, and his relative, Anwar, staged a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Saturday to protest against the inordinate delay in the recovery of Babu’s kidnapped daughter.

He said that police made no efforts to arrest them and recover his daughter while the accused were roaming about freely.

He appealed to the governor and senior police officers to intervene and direct the Chambar police to act against the accused and recover his daughter.
