SAHIWAL, July 5: A bailiff of the local court on Friday raided on a bonded labour camp at Chak 56/12-L and recovered eight members of a family.
The raid was conducted on the information provided by Khadim Hussain who somehow managed to escape from the camp.
Hussain said Muhammad Saleem, his son Adnan and a woman, Naseeran, ran the camp where the needy families were brought for work in various kilns. Instead of giving wages to them, the manager of the camp provided them with meals of two times daily. The men and women were kept in chains and were subjected to torture on refusal to work, he said.
Hussain disclosed that he, his father Muhammad Mustafa, his wife Amna, sons Irfan Haider, Imran Haider and Ali Shan and minor daughters Shabana, Parveen and Nabeela were brought to the camp some three months ago. The judge asked the police to produce before court manager of the camp on Saturday (today).
PRE-ARREST BAILS: A local court on Saturday granted pre-arrest bails to four constables.
Arshad Kamboh involved in dozens of cases of heinous crimes had escaped from the custody of constables Mamrez Hussain, Fida Hussain, Muhammad Hussain and Allah Ditta on June 26.
Police had registered a case against four constables and SI Ali Murtaza, who is still absconding along with the escapee. All the five policemen were suspended from the service while a departmental inquiry against them is still going on.
RECOVERED: A bailiff of the district and sessions judge Syed Ali Hassan on Thursday raided the Noorshah police lock-up and recovered a man detained unlawfully.
Mazhar Iqbal in his plaint to court said the police had arrested Falak Sher, Allah Ditta and Bakhtawar on June 24 from his house at Chak 14/14-L and kept them in illegal confinement. The bailiff could recover only Falak Sher whose arrest was not recorded in the day book. The other two detainees were allegedly shifted from the lock-up before the raid. The judge summoned the Noorshah SHO before court with record and two detainees on July 8.
NO BLACK DAY: The PPP failed to observe a black day on Friday announced by the local party leadership.
District president Mehr Ghulam Farid Kathia was out of the city while district secretary-general Chaudhry Naurez Shakoor did not turn up at the party’s district office though he was present in his house.
