KARACHI, Nov 2: A Pakistani fishermen delegation currently in India hopes to secure the release of 202 Pakistani fishermen along with their boats before Ramazan, said a message received on Friday.
The fishermen were arrested by Indian authorities six months back on the charge of poaching into Indian territorial waters.
A total of 196 Indian fishermen with 32 boats were released by Pakistani authorities last week as a gesture of goodwill and they have left for home.
Meanwhile, India has protested the arrest of 48 Indian fishermen with eight launches by Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency last week for violating Pakistan’s territorial waters.
INDIAN DELEGATION: The 7-member delegation of Indian officials and fishermen will leave for Bombay on Saturday afternoon, sources added.
The delegation led by a senior official of Guajrat Fisheries Department, J.J. Parmar and president of Indian Fishermen Association, Velgi Kamji Masani, had arrived here last month to arrange for the repair of 32 Indian fishing boats and return journey of the released 196 detained Indian fishermen.
The FCS vice-chairman, Haji Shafi Jamote and Ghazanfar Ali Boota, will see off the delegation at the airport.
The delegation met the FCS chairman, Commodore Syed Tayyab Naqvi, on Friday, and thanked him for cooperation and help in the repatriation of Indian fishermen.
They also urged the chairman to help in the early release of the recently-detained Indian fishermen. He assured them of full cooperation in this matter.—PPI/APP
