KOHAT, July 2: The military authorities in Waziristan Agency shifted the nine of the 12 Al Qaeda suspects arrested on Friday last to Peshawar for interrogation by a joint interrogation team.

Earlier, the JIT, which interrogated all the 12 suspects in Wana, marked six members of the Tablighee Jamaat and three Afghans as “grey”. The intelligence personnel said these six men used to be active members of a particular anti-state group in the past, but suspended their activities for the time being.

A member of the JIT in Wana told Dawn on the condition of anonymity that they had recommended to their colleagues in Peshawar that these men should be released if nothing extraordinary was found against them, but their activities should be regularly monitored for at least six months.

The remaining three suspects were still being interrogated by the JIT in the office of the Assistant Political Agent, Wana, Syed Anwar Ali Shah.

He said that more operations were expected in South and North Waziristan Agencies in the next few days for which certain areas had been marked “red” by the US intelligence personnel.
