LOS ANGELES, July 2: The California state legislature on Monday passed the Halal Food Bill. The bill was passed by both the assembly and the senate without any opposition.

The bill will help Muslim consumers in the face of Halal food frauds, which are widespread in the United States, and may also force various fast food chains and super stores to especially cater to their Muslim clients.

“It will tremendously increase business of Halal food in the state,” said Ramzan Farooq, a dealer of Halal food items in downtown Los Angeles.

Similar bills have also been earlier passed by the states of New Jersey, Illinois and Minnesota.

“The passage of the Halal Food Bill reflects the growing needs of the Muslim community and provides an example of the importance of our community’s participation in the political process,” said Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

“Like every group in America, our participation is the key to have our issues addressed,” he said.
