SC bar rejects proposed changes

ISLAMABAD, July 2: The Supreme Court Bar Association has rejected the proposed constitutional amendments and decided to organise lawyers of the country against the proposed amendments by holding protest demonstrations and strikes.

Hamid Khan, President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, at a Press conference held in Islamabad on Monday, said that a convention of lawyers would be held in Lahore under the auspices of SCBA on July 6. The convention would decide about the strategy of the protest.

The SCBA President reiterated lawyers’ call for the removal of Justice (retd) Irshad Hasan Khan as the Chief Election Commissioner claiming he had lost his credibility by holding referendum.

The SCBA president said there was no hurdle in the way of removal of Chief Election Commissioner as he was not appointed under the Constitution.

He said the lawyers of the country had suggested names of retired judges, enjoying good reputation, like Fakruddin G. Ibrahim, Zafar Ali Mirza or Ajmal Mian for the post of the Chief Election Commissioner.
