ISLAMABAD, July 1: Qaumi Jamhoori Party (QJP) has called for a judicial inquiry into the death of Omar Asghar Khan, doubting official claims that it was a suicide.
He had no domestic problems that could compel him to take his own life, the QJP secretary-general, Dr Zafar Mirza, said at a media conference held the party central secretariat on Monday.
He said they would not point finger at anybody as late Mr Khan had no political or personal enmity. However, he said, they would demand a judicial inquiry into the case.
“The untimely death of Mr Khan has left a void which will not be filled in near future,” Dr Mirza said, adding that the party’s central executive committee meeting was scheduled for July 14. The meeting will decide party’s future policy, besides reviewing progress on the case.
He said they had already requested Air Marshal (Rtd) Asghar Khan to assume the party leadership, but he had not given any reply so far.
